The History of the Baby Stroller

!9# The History of the Baby Stroller

The first kind of stroller to emerge was the pram or baby carriage. It was developed in 1733 by William Kent. It was big actually so big that it had to be dragged by a small pony or goat. They were too expensive for normal people of that time and only wealthy people could afford to get a pram.

In the 1830s Benjamin Potter Crandall started to sell the first baby carriages in America and they quickly became popular amongst people who could afford them. They were hand built from heavy wood and brass which made them very beautiful but also fairly expensive.

In the beginning of the 20 century the baby carriage became more available to the general population. They were now produced in factories and built from modern materials. This made them cheap and affordable for normal families.

With newer designs and educated engineers supervising the production and design, the baby carriages became safe, lighter and easier to use. Such things we take for granted today like brakes and big wheels were now added to the baby carriages.

It was in 1965 the first real stroller appeared on the market. It was Owen Maclaren who after receiving complaints from his daughter about the heavy baby carriage, he developed the umbrella stroller. By using an aluminum frame he could keep the weight down but still make a durable stroller.

Today we rarely see any baby carriages. They are too heavy and cumbersome. Instead the modern stroller has taken over, with the ability to recline the seat it can function as a baby carriage when the child is young and be turned into stroller as the child gets older and bigger.

There are many different models of strollers available today. Travel systems, jogging strollers and double strollers just to name a few. For new parents this often seems overwhelming but to know what one's own needs are, choosing a stroller shouldn't be difficult.

The travel system combines the baby carriage and the stroller. The seat is removable and can be switched out with a bassinet to transform the stroller into a baby carriage. The seat can often also be exchanged with a car seat allowing the baby to be moved from the car to the stroller without disturbing it too much.

The jogging stroller is a more modern model. It is a light stroller with big wheels. It is as the name implies designed for jogging or running. Its big wheels make the stroller stable and easy to push over more difficult terrain. It has become more popular amongst most people for its light weight and maneuverability.

The double stroller is another popular stroller for families with multiple children. It works great for those with twins and children of different ages. Being able to have two kids in the same stroller makes life easier for parents compared to having two strollers to push.

Strollers are overall a great invention giving parents some relief from carrying around the babies all the time. On the other hand carrying one's child brings more physical closeness and comfort to the baby, so don't forget to hold your child close to you from time to time.

Tips for Buying a Baby Car Seat

!9# Tips for Buying a Baby Car Seat

Baby car seats are a necessity and there are many types to choose from. However, the primary thing to keep in mind when looking for one is that the safety of your child is the most important factor to consider.

A car seat should be chosen on the height and weight of your child. Some seats are only designed to be rear-facing and generally will hold a child up to 22 lbs. Many will stay with your child from birth up until they reach 70 lbs. Or are ready for a booster seat. These seats can be rear-facing and forward-facing.

Above all car seats should meet your local laws and the recommendations of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

All children from birth to one year and at least 20 lbs should ride in a rear facing seat. However the latest thought is that rear-facing is safest up until the age of two. From age 1 to 20 lbs. to around age 4 and 40 lbs., children should ride in a forward facing toddler seat. From age 4 and 40 lbs. to age 8 unless 4'9" or over, children should ride in a booster seat. At age 8 or taller than 4'9", children should use the lap and shoulder belt in the vehicle. All children under age 13 should ride in the back seat.

Buying A Used One

It is best to not buy a used car seat but if you have rely on a used one, make sure it was made after Jan 1, 1981. That is when the stricter laws went into effect. It is best to not use one more than 5 or 6 years old. The manufacturer of the seat can tell you when they recommend you buy a new seat.

Ensure that the seat was not involved in a crash. Car seats will only survive one crash and should never be used again. Even if the seat appears to be okay, there can be unseen structural damage that affects the safety of the seat. Make sure that the label is attached to the seat containing the manufacturer name, model number, and manufacturing date. Check with the manufacturer to be sure there are no recalls on this model. Be sure your seat has instructions. In order to be safe it must be properly installed in your vehicle. Register your used seat with the manufacturer so that you can be notified of any recalls. To check for recalls on your car seat there are two sources other than the manufacturer.

1. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) which has a list of recalled child seats.

2. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission which has lists of recalls for all products.

The choice of a jogging stroller - Fixed Vs jogger swivel gear

!9# The choice of a jogging stroller - Fixed Vs jogger swivel gear

When I started looking for a jogging stroller, I really had no idea what to look for. I just learned that they were cold, looked everywhere, and I had to have one. What I did not know was that there are many different styles to choose from. Solid wheel steering wheels, no matter what you intend to do with it, a jogger is suitable for every need.

In the beginning there was only one style of jogging stroller true. And 'three-wheel designoffered a united front that just track, giving you the durability and super smooth ride. Already in 1980, jogging did not come with a number of additional features. They were simple, and built for a particular purpose. They have come a long way since then. The simple design is now also the block front swivel wheels that turn on a dime, agility, technique, and then lock in a fixed position and provides the duration necessary for a race. They took the jogging came truein an all-terrain jogging stroller. Go nowhere, out of the mall, on the track. Although these all-terrain strollers offer the ability to block, it is still recommended by most, that if you're a runner "serious", you should go with a swivel front wheel drive verses. The reason is security. With a fixed front wheel, do not worry increasingly wobbly at high speed. As for those of you who are not going too seriously, just an occasional jogger, a goodQuality all-terrain jogging stroller with swivel wheel could be just what you're looking for.

The difference in turning a wheel fixed, you need to lift the front of the stroller, clicking on the link, and then turn. In other words, a sharp pop. With a surface swivel front wheel, right turn. Well, I'm not knocking on the fixed gear, I love my jogging true. And, how natural it feels to pop a wheelie be surprised. But they need more space for turning movements andduring the swing-wheel turns on a dime.

Other differences between True and jogging strollers, all-terrain are the features. Jogger The truth is simple, without some new features, mainly because, if you're a serious racer, you can do all the "stuff" in your path. Since the All-Terrain stroller is an all-in-one buggy or stroller every day, has a few extras, such as a parent tray with cup holders, trays, or a child. Some models, even with a loudspeakerValue of an MP3 player so that you and the child's ability to hear the songs on the path.

Consequently, the true off-road design and excellent style stroller. They are light, stylish and sporty, and no matter what you choose, you will not be disappointed. A list of best-selling jogging, see the link below.
